If there is a theme that runs through my life it is one of finding God's sufficiency during good times and bad, abundance and loss. The late Corrie Ten Boom (author of The Hiding Place) once said, "When God closes a door; He opens a window."
The purpose of New Every Morning is to help others find their window...to not give up when life seems hopeless. In my journey, I have discovered that God desires that we take each loss to Him and He replaces it with Himself. We exchange our loss for His abundance.
I once taught beginning and classical piano but an illness forced me to give that up in 1990. God opened the door for me to write after that and I was published in Decision, Home Life, Discipleship Journal, Moody, Standard and in medical journals and newsletters. I also had a greeting card published with Day Spring. Then the unthinkable happened and from 1999 until 2006, I was unable to write and barely able to read. I was devasted. A dear friend who is a professional artist encouraged me to try painting. I was shocked when I began to experience success in that area. God continues to open windows and my ability to write continues to improve.
I love to take what others would throw away and turn it into something beautiful and useful because that is what God does in our lives. As the Creator of the Universe, our Heavenly Father was the first to come up with the idea of "going green." What the world will often trash, He transforms into a new creation. He doesn't patch us up; He remakes us.
The saving life of Christ is our hope and it is His life in us that makes all the difference. Whether you have lost your health, your mate, a child, your career, your home, your friends ... don't give up. Wait on Him to exchange your loss for His abundance. "His mercies are (truly) new every morning. Great is His faithfulness" Lamentations 3:22,23.
